I am a life-long democrat and am proud of it. I am no stranger to the world of Politics. While growing up in High School during our Social Studies hour I read a book about Robert F. Kennedy and admired his bravery and his public service. I knew then that this was someone that I wanted to be like when I grew up. At the age of 18 I was elected to a City Council term in my hometown where I grew up in the State of Illinois.
At that time I was spending nights at home reading the Code of Statutes book, learning City, State and Federal statutes. I worked hard to prove to my residents that I could be the person that our community counted upon. I was met by the challenge of some voters saying “What would an 18 year old kid know about politics.” By the half-way mark of my first year I had those same voters encouraging me to run for office again thanks to all the successes I had brought to our community. I remember one voter saying “Halfaday's young blood and he has the desire and fire to fight for our community.”
The City of Charlottesville is a “World Class City” and I am very proud to be able to call Charlottesville my home. I believe that the residents of this great city need to be represented by someone dedicated, who is for the citizens. I am up to this challenge. I try to live by two quotes in my life at all times. The first one is my all time favorite and I try to implement it on a daily basis.

This is how I feel about our “World Class City” and how I would like to represent our city. I know that I have the leadership skills to move Charlottesville in the right direction. The second quote I live by no matter what comes into my life and I would like to share it with you. “I know in my heart that man is good. That what is right will always eventually triumph. And there's purpose and worth to each and every life.” Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States.
Currently I serve on 2 boards here in the City of Charlottesville. I am on the City of Charlottesville Building Codes of Appeals and I serve on the City of Charlottesville Department of Police Advisory Panel. Along with working for the city on these public boards, I have taken on the role of a Facilitator for the City of Charlottesville Dialogue on Race and have elected to represent the City of Charlottesville in the Government Action Forums that are held weekly here in the City. “Welcome Home” as I visited The White House of President Obama I worked hard in representing Charlottesville during my time at The White House.
I have attended many community events. One of the most memorable events was the “Take Back the Night” rally that was held in Washington Park here in Charlottesville. For the women who spoke at this event, it took courage and bravery to speak about their attackers and how they have brought change to the community. I was able to escort this group of women and men from Washington Park on the public streets of Charlottesville all the way to the campus of the University of Virginia. Together I believe that we can build a successful partnership. I am committed to the City of Charlottesville, just as I am committed to exemplifying my motto of HALFADAY STRONG. In the next few months I will be announcing my Democratic candidacy for City Council for the 2011 Election. I firmly believe that if a person wants a public position that he or she should work for it, so I am going to announce my bid and work hard for you Charlottesville, before the election of 2011. Just as I am working for change I know that Congressman Tom Perriello is a good representative of the Fifth District here in Central Virginia.
